International gaze

Erwin’s transparent and down-to-earth approach stems from his background. He grew up in natural surroundings and inherited his love of nature, plants and garden history from several generations in his family. As a child, he would pore over his grandfather’s books and magazines about international garden and flower shows. Erwin started his career within Recruitment and HR and was, among other things, involved in the selection for the diplomatic training programme of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2005, he followed his heart and set up Erwin Stam Tuinstudio.

My designs are a synthesis of international influences. That’s where I find most inspiration.

“For me, designing gardens is always about discovering new worlds,” says Erwin. He is inspired by the way clients see things. Every design project fills him with new ideas, whether close to home or further afield in cities such as London and Munich. Erwin gains inspiration from his travels, which include visits to gardens such as Le Jardin Secret in Marrakech and events such as the famous Chelsea Flower Show. Erwin casts his gaze wide and keeps abreast of what is happening internationally in the world of garden design.

Erwin Stam regularly appeared as a guest on the Dutch television show Eigen Huis & Tuin, contributing to the programme as one of the ten most inspiring garden designers in the Netherlands. He presents at international shows such as the Flower & Garden Festival in Istanbul, MiNiATURE in Amsterdam and the Beijing Garden Festival, and his gardens are featured in magazines such as VT Wonen, Tuinontwerp, Eigen Huis & Interieur, ELLE Wonen, TUINSeizoen, Home and Garden and Groei & Bloei.
