Year 7 pupils from Cornelis Vrijschool visit Houthavens Botanique

Design Your Own Dream Park, Inspired by Matisse

On 10 June, Year 7 pupils from Cornelis Vrijschool visited Pocket Park Houthavens Botanique and the neighbouring office of Erwin Stam Tuinstudio.

During a guided tour led by landscape designer Erwin Stam, the pupils discovered why green spaces are so important in urban environments, what makes a successful park and how a landscape design comes to life. They were then invited to unleash their creativity by working in teams to design their own dream parks, inspired by the colourful dream gardens of artist Henri Matisse. The pupils also created scale models of their designs.

The afternoon was guided by Erwin Stam, his colleagues and artist Mijke van Otterloo, who is also involved with Heren2 Vastgoed. During the break, the children sowed their own sunflower seeds in the park.

An inspiring afternoon in which creativity, nature and collaboration came together.
